The 2014 Honda Civic Tour, featuring Grouplove and Portugal the Man (often stylized Portugal. The Man), will stop at the Simon Estes Amphitheater on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as part of the Nitefall on the River summer concert series. The Los Angeles indie rock band Grouplove has already totaled five Top 20 Alternative singles just two albums into their young career together. The band hit #1 on the Alternative chart with the single "Tongue Tied" (featured video) off of their platinum-selling 2011 debut album Never Trust a Happy Song. Last September, the band released the sophomore effort Spreading Rumours. The album peaked at #21 on the Billboard 200, and Grouplove just missed having another #1 single with the hit "Ways to Go", which topped out at #2 on the Alternative chart.

The roots of tourmates Portugal the Man can be traced back to Wasilla, Alaska. John Gourley and Zach Carothers formed a band at Wasilla High School named Anatomy of a Ghost. That band would break up, but Gourley, Carothers, and one of the band's guitar techs would join two other musicians to form the first lineup of Portugal the Man. PtM's last two albums have cracked the Top 20 of the Rock and Alternative charts, and the band, now based mainly out of Portland, has produced the Top 20 hits "People Say" and "Purple, Yellow, Red and Blue". Tickets to see the Honda Civic Tour in Des Moines are $30 in advance and $35 on the day of the concert. The Nitefall show will be an all ages event, and STRFKR will serve as the opening act.

[UPDATE: Due to the threat of bad weather, Nitefall on the River organizers have moved the Honda Civic Tour show scheduled for the Simon Estes Amphitheater under the canopy at the Brenton Skating Plaza.]

Kansas country singer Jerrod Niemann (pictured) will perform at the Farm Progress Show at Iowa State University's renovated Harvester Plaza on Wednesday. The outdoor show is open to the general public, not just those attending the Farm Progress Show. The music will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with opener Craig Campbell, and tickets are $28. Niemann released his sixth album, entitled High Noon, in late March. Three of Niemann's albums have reached the Top 10 of the Country charts with 2010's Judge Jerrod & the Hung Jury making it all the way to #1. Niemann has also racked up five Top 20 Country singles, including the platinum-selling #1 hits "Lover, Lover" and "Drink to That All Night".

If you are looking for a unique show on Wednesday, Vaudeville Mews has just the thing. Bob Log III's one-man punk blues show is something to behold. The Chicago-born, Tucson-raised musician comes to the stage wearing a full-length human cannonball suit complete with a helmet fitted with a telephone receiver wired as a mic covering his mouth. Log plays the slide guitar, along with a kick drum and foot cymbal, sometimes with a fan sitting on each leg. Log's shows are often wild affairs. He has been known to crowd-surf in rubber dinghies, squawk expletives, play a few songs from the women's restroom, and do a few things that cannot be mentioned in this PG-rated article. Consider yourself warned. The music will kick off at 9 p.m. with opener Eric Kennedy. The show will be a 21-and-over event, and it will have a $10 cover charge at the door.
