There are many awards handed out these day and web series are no different. But of all the awards, the Daytime Emmy Awards is the pinnacle of nods. We asked the nominees of the Daytime Emmy Award - Outstanding New Approaches – Drama Series, how it felt to be nominated for this coveted award now that the shock has worn off and here's what they had to say. Unfortunately, the creators of “The Power Inside” did not respond to requests for comment for this article.
DeVanity creator Michael Caruso had this to say, “DeVanity began four years ago as a grand experiment. It was put out there as a question of what could we do if a group of dedicated friends pooled their resources and created something from scratch. One of the immensely frustrating things about living in LA is that you are surrounded by extremely talented people that for one reason or another never get a chance to showcase their work. DeVanity was an attempt to counteract all that. Why wait for the phone to ring when we could do something and see where it took us. Fast forward to four years later and this incredible thing happens. We got an Emmy nomination. Did I expect it? No. Have I dreamed and hoped for it? Absolutely. I wanted this just about as badly as a person could wish for something. When you do what we do in the web series world, one thing is certain. You have to do it because you are motivated by passion, and love for the story you are trying to tell. You are doing it for yourself, your fans, and for the cast and crew around you that believe in your vision. Awards and recognition are a dream come true, but at the end of the day the show that you create is what's left. The morning I found out about the Emmy nomination I'll be really honest and look like a wuss here, but I point blank started crying. I woke my wife up and told her and then she started crying, and for the next 2 hours we looked like crazy people crying on and off while we walked around the house answering calls and talking to people. I think the best part of this was the tidal wave of well wishes that came our way. People that I thought didn't care or didn't pay attention to this sort of thing were coming out of the woodwork to congratulate us. I think that was the thing that hit me the most. Our little show that came out of left field that didn't have any marquee "names" at first or production powerhouse behind it had accomplished the impossible. It's easy to be cynical about Hollywood. You meet people and you see things on almost a daily basis that force you to ask yourself, "Why am I even bothering?" But this experience has taught me that there is still magic left in this town. You just have to dig for it. This is the honor of a lifetime and something I will never forget.”
“Tainted Dreams” creator Sonia Blangiardo had this to say, “It was a moment I will never forget. I think it has finally sunk in. I want to thank everyone for their amazingly kind and supportive comments and congratulations. Those who are close to me know my life is dedicated to “Tainted Dreams”. It is my passion project. What I learned and am beyond appreciative of is that I share this joy with so many people who have given so much. None of this would have been possible without the love, support and dedication of my beautiful and talented cast and my amazing, hard working production team and crew.
Our team is genuinely thrilled and humbled to receive an Emmy nomination based on the three webisodes we made available as a sneak peek. With “Tainted Dreams” our team wanted to create a high-quality series, accessible to as many viewers as possible, and sustainable for multiple seasons. Finding the right distribution model and platform to achieve our goal is taking longer than we anticipated, but we have more than six hours of Tainted Dreams, Season 1 we are excited for fans to see.”
The people at “Venice the Series” had this to say, “Ms Chappell and everyone at Open Book Productions is thrilled to be among the nominees for this year’s Daytime Emmys. We are very proud of “Venice the Series” and everyone who works on, watches and supports it.”
Stay tuned. On June 22, 2014 the 2014 Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. All the nominees are already winners but it will be exciting to see who brings home the statuette.
