Global Weather Headlines for July 11, 2014:
Drenching showers and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and flash flooding along with frequent lightning will extend from the south, central Plains into the Southeast. Travel delays will be possible in many major cities such as Louisiana, Jackson, Atlanta and Richmond among others as highways and airports can be hit heavy with showers.
Another area to get hit with heavy rain will be central and Eastern Europe as storms moving through those areas will bring hail, strong downpours as well as cooler air. The storms which are expected to stretch from Poland to France before rumbling into northern Italy leading to travel delays and disruptions that will dampen all types of outdoor activities including the ongoing Tour de France. The storm system is expected to track east, however, the chances for daily showers and thunderstorms will remain through the weekend.
Although weaker, typhoon Neoguri continues to pack a punch across Japan threatening thousands of lives due to the flooding and mudslides that have come along with the storm. On Monday, Neoguri intensified into a super typhoon with winds exceeding 150 mph along with dangerous storm surge that pounded the northern Ryukyu Islands. Power outages due to down trees and power lines, structural damage and canceled or delayed flights in and out of Japan can be expected until Friday when conditions should begin to improve.
