Weather forecast: Ideal spring conditions

Weather map at 2PM Sunday                                                 (Courtesy UCAR)

Weather analysis....
A quasi-stationary front continues to be draped just north of the hoosier state today and will remain in the region for the next several days.  A few pieces of minor upper level energy will move along/atop the front over the next few days, but are not expected to produce any all-day rain situations.  Meanwhile, with the front to our north, very warm conditions will continue.

The overall pattern, known as a "rex block", has a large dome of high pressure over the southeastern US, while an amplifying trough will continue to slowly push into the west.  The high to our south will push all of this energy up and around the northern periphery, which should keep our area very warm and mostly dry for the foreseeable future.

Forecast in detail....
Rest of Sunday:  Mostly cloudy and very warm.  High around 75.  Light southwest winds.  A very slight chance of a light shower mainly north/northeast of Indianapolis.  Chance of rain 10%.
Monday:   Decreasing clouds and continued warm.  Morning low around 48, afternoon high around 74.  Light east winds becoming southeast 5-10 MPH.
Tuesday:  Mostly clear in the morning, increasing clouds late.  Continued warm.  A chance of showers late, mainly north.  Morning low around 56, afternoon high around 76.  Chance of rain 20%.  Southeast winds 5-10 MPH becoming light from the south.
Wednesday:  A few clouds in the morning, giving way to sunny conditions.  Morning low around 53, afternoon high around 74.  Light south winds becoming southeast 5-10 MPH.
Thursday:  Mostly sunny and very warm.  Morning low around 56, afternoon high around 81.  South winds 5-10 MPH becoming southwest late.

A look at the long range....
Temperatures will be a bit cooler Friday with a chance of thunderstorms.  Too early to tell if strong storms will be possbile.  This will be with the passage of a weak cold front, which will only drop our daily high/low temperatures by aroudn 8-10 degrees for a few days, as daily highs in the upper 60s and lows in the mid 40s will be the rule for next weekend.  This would probably be a good time for local farmers to begin planting, as no freezing temperatures are anticipated through at least late April.
