End of October brings in the 1st round action on Wednesday night, October 30th. In the Iowa High School Football playoffs, 32 teams from each class started their journey to their respective class championship as the outside temperatures fall. Here is a rundown of who is moving on among the Area Davenport Schools.
Davenport Assumption defeated Davenport Central 26-0. Assumption brings their record to 9-1 and will take on Cedar Rapids Kennedy on Monday, November 4th at Assumption. Assumption's only loss this year is to Pleasant Valley 13-19. Davenport Central ends their season at 4-6.
Bettendorf defeated North Scott of Eldridge, 34-7. Bettendorf continues at 8-2 and will take on Iowa City West, at Iowa City West, also on Monday, November 4th. North Scott ends their season at 5-5.
Pleasant Valley boasts a 10-0 record after defeating Waterloo West, 26-14. They are only 1 of 3 teams in Class 4A undefeated, which include Ames and West Des Moines Dowling Catholic. Pleasant Valley will play Cedar Falls on Monday, November 4th.
Maquoketa continues to represent the Davenport area by defeating Crestwood, Cresco 19-13 in overtime. Maquoketa takes their 7-3 record against undefeated Decorah in Monday's 2nd round action.
The only area school in Class 2A invited to the post-season, Louisa-Muscatine, ended their extended season quickly with a loss at the hands of Albia 6-29. Louisa-Muscatine ends with a 5-5 record.
Wilton remains the lone Class 1A qualifier after defeating North Cedar of Stanwood 42-14. Wilton improves to 9-1 and will face undefeated and District 5 champion Maquoketa Valley of Delhi in Monday's 2nd round.
As mentioned before, 2nd round of the playoffs will be Monday, November 4th. Temperatures should be similar to the 1st round games, but with a slim chance of rain.
