The holidays may be over, but the winter season has barely gotten started. Celebrate those crisp days and snowy mornings with wearable winter crafts. Instead of spending a ton of money on winter accessories, make your own wearable DIY projects to become the season’s best dressed.
Dress up Your Winter Wear
You can make your old winter accessories look brand-new again with a handful of jingle bells. These small, round bells are festive and pretty, and they sing “winter” with every little tinkle. Sew the bells directly to the ends of scarves, the wrists of mittens and the cuffs of knit winter caps. You can even add jingle bells to your hair accessories, like ribbons and ties, to dress up your wardrobe.
Make a Pocket Scarf
Can’t you always use an extra pocket? Add one to a scarf to add convenient storage space, and customize your winter wear. Simply fold up one end of the scarf, pin the sides and make a simple over-and-under stitch up each side to close the pocket. Use a yarn in a color that matches the scarf to make the pocket durable enough for use.
Create Hanging Snowman Earrings
Get yourself some fake pearls or white beads in four varying sizes, a handful of clear beads, a black marker and some black scraps of fabric, and you’re ready to create your own snowman earrings.
Start with an earring base, or a stainless steel rod 3 to 4 inches in length. Place a dab of superglue inside one of your clear beads, and slide it down to the bottom of the base. Hold it there while the glue dries. Add three of your fake pearls, biggest to smallest. Slide a small piece of black fabric onto these stacked beads, then add the smallest bead on top. Use wire cutters to get rid of any excess length on the earring, leaving just a small amount the top. Make a small loop at this end of the rod with needle-nose pliers after you add your earring hook.
Color the small bead at the top of the snowman black (it will be become a top hat). Add eyes and a smile on the next bead if you like, and you’re done!
