Wear red and help save lives while saving money

Get out your red dress, pants, shirt, hat or shoes! It's time to Go Red! Friday, February 1st is National Wear Red Day, for heart disease awareness. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women and men.

The American Heart Association (AHA) is sponsoring “Go Red For Women” to especially support women when it comes to heart disease.

All around the Atlanta area people will be sporting the color red. And not just in Atlanta, but around the nation special events are being held to support the cause.

Macy’s department stores are giving shoppers who wear red a 20-percent discount on their purchase up through Febrary 5th. Also if you shop at Macys.com you can get a 10-percent discount by putting the code: RED.

The “Go Red For Women” campaign is hosting a variety of events at GoRedForWomen.com. And people are encouraged to share stories about how to become a “Better U.”

Some steps you can take to be a “Better U” include:

Being active for at least 2-and-a-half hours a week.

Include activities that raise your breathing and heart rates and that strengthen your muscles.

Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables every day.

Limit foods and drinks high in calories, sugar, salt, fat, and alcohol content.

Be smoke-free and avoid second hand smokers.
