Several disturbances imbedded in the northern branch of the jet stream will encroach upon the region through the next several days. Though precipitation and cloud increases are possible with these systems, alot of their moisture will come from the Great Lakes, and thus more pronounced precipitation is expected closer to the lake shore areas. Behind the system forecast to pass through the region this afternoon will come a bitter push of arctic air on the heels of fresh northwesterly breezes that should kick up later this afternoon before subsiding during the evening hours. Temperatures may start out Thursday near or below zero in many locales.
Another weak system passes through the region on Friday, bringing chances for more light snow shower or flurry activity, with a slight break on Saturday, followed by yet another system for Sunday. The temperatures profile of the atmosphere looks to be cold enough to allow all precipitation falling as result of these systems to be snow.
Temperatures look to start out the forecast period below normal, but trend more toward normal values by the end of the period. Precipitation amounts look to average near to slightly below normal.
