Weak front brings spotty rain

Weather Forecaster Daniel Johnson

Tuesday was picture perfect with highs in the mid 80s, low humidity, and lots of sunshine! We’ll see a little more in the way of cloud cover on Wednesday as a very weak cold front continues to push through the region. There is very little moisture along the front, however, so I’m only expecting spotty showers and storms to develop. Due to the extra cloud cover, highs should only near the 80 degree mark. The heat and humidity will really start to crank up on Thursday and Friday with highs up to 90 degrees on Friday. The next good chance for rain will arrive on Saturday when scattered showers and storms are expected.

On another note, the heat this summer has really been to our west with an upper level ridge. This dome of hot air will briefly ride into our area at times, bringing with it warmer temperatures. It does not take long, however, for the ridge to get flattened out by another trough. These troughs and subsequent northwest flow have been responsible for the cooler than average summer temperatures that we have been experiencing up to now. As previously mentioned, we should get a taste of summer heat and humidity by late week. Friday looks to be an excellent swimming day!
