"We Won't Fly" TSA protest gains momentum for November 24th, 2010

We will simply stop flying until the porno-scanners are history.

On November 24th, a series of protests are to take place across the country and even internationally as growing backlash against full body scanners and invasive pat downs continues in full force.

If you wish to join a protest, they can be found on a Google map found here.  If there is no protest at your airport, please create a meet up for it!  Make sure that your airport is found on the list of airports with full body scanners.

While the TSA claims you can opt out of full body scanning, you are then subject to a rigourous "pat down," which is exceptionally evasive.  Rather than be subject to a simple metal detector and basic patdown, you are now forced to be photographed naked or sexually harassed by the offiicers.

Putting a stop to this madness calls for your help.  Please share this link and the others found below.  A true grassroots resistance is required to combat this problem, as well as the others that stem from the ever-growing government.  The choice is yours!

Relevant Information from We Won't Fly:

For your Health
Backscatter X-ray uses ionizing radiation, a known cumulative health hazard, to produce images of passengers’ bodies. Children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with defective DNA repair mechanisms are considered to be especially susceptible to the type of DNA damage caused by ionizing radiation. Also at high risk are those who have had, or currently have, skin cancer. Ionizing radiation’s effects are cumulative, meaning that each time you are exposed you are adding to your risk of developing cancer. Since the dosage of radiation from the backscatter X-ray machines is absorbed almost entirely by the skin and tissue directly under the skin, averaging the dose over the whole body gives an inaccurate picture of the actual harm. In their letter of concern, the UCSF faculty members noted that “the dose to the skin could be dangerously high”. The eyes are particularly susceptible to the effects of radiation, and as one study found allowing the eyes to be exposed to radiation can lead to an increased incidence of cataracts.

For your Privacy
Aside from the health risks of these devices, the fact remains that they allow strip searches to be conducted on a wide-scale level. That they are automated and mechanical in no way changes the fact that when a government agent looks beneath your clothing you are being strip searched. These strip searches are being performed without any probable cause or reasonable suspicion, as primary screening. A recent article in the San Diego Entertainer on August 31, 2010 stated that “the scans are detailed enough to identify a person’s gender… to identify a passenger’s surgery scars, or to discern whether a woman is on her menstrual cycle or not.” Although the TSA purports to be staffed by highly trained professionals who respect the privacy and dignity of travelers, TSA Screener Rolando Negrin was ridiculed by other TSA screeners for having a small penis after being imaged by an AIT device (AKA porno-scanner).

For your Personal Property
There are also property risks. During the time that a person is inside the full body imaging machine, it is impossible to maintain a line of sight to his or her belongings. Remember that because you cannot have anything in your pockets during the scan, this will include all your identification, money, and all personal items. Numerous thefts have been reported at security checkpoints, including incidents that led to the firing of four TSA employees at JFK as ABC News reported.

Great idea for the protest. Here's a funny article about Napolitano trying to change "perceptions" of the pat downs.

We are driving to visit family this year, and changing vacation plans for later this year. We will happy to never fly again. I know there are a lot of people that think like I do. I will not allow some TSA pervert to molest my child in the name of "safety". The airlines need to pull this Government up short or they WILL go out of business.

  • Worldtraveler 1 year ago

For those of us whose extended families live on another continent, not much of an option...."you can chose not to fly" = "you can chose not to go to your niece's wedding", so when does the next boat leave Chicago for Europe or South America?

  • AK 1 year ago

It was cries for security at airports by the public that helped the Govt get a choke hold on the airlines security in the first place. You only have yourself to blame. I'd rather get touched by a TSA agent than blown out of the sky by Achmed but do what you will. Ooh, and by the way, your more likely to kill your family by making the choice to drive than have them searched by TSA agents. Brilliant. glad you are so concerned for your kids.

  • Padre 1 year ago

    AK:
As to your "More likely to die", You are more likely to die from pilot error or mechanical failure than a terrorist on a plane by more than ten to one odds.

So for you, brilliant. Glad to know the only way you can get felt up is to go through airport security.

So, my safety and security is being weakened by an agenda driven group of people who need to do the thinking for me? No thanks, I can choose for myself thank you very much. Wake up people, this is simply a lp.org play to take away your choice and conform to their single sided views. It happened in Nazi Germany and they're trying it again under the veil of health, freedom and privacy arguments. Don't give into this nonsense...

  • Savvy Traveler 1 year ago

Don't submit to these idiots! TSA won't even release the methodology by which they deem these naked scanners "safe".

Opt-out every time, and call you Congressional representatives on Monday the 15th to let them know that naked scanners and sexual assault pat down are NOT OK.

  • Concerned Mother 1 year ago

My daughter has flown since she was 3 years old. She is 12 now and is developing breasts. It sickens me as a mother than the first sexual encounter will be involuntary and at such a young age to a TSA pervert.
As a mother I spoke to her about what to expect and she was horrified, and said she would rather not go to Florida. We cancelled our trip.

If Janet Napalitano is not willing to go thru the machine, why shoudl my daughter. I did research and I found that these machines are not even used in Israel cause they are unreliable and easily tricked. Janet, I hope you are tried for treason and endangering children, and get listed in the sexual preditator database. I am no longer afraid of terrorists, your goons are much scarier.

Just an FYI the Excuse of "Following Orders" did not work in Nuremburg and it will not work for you.

  • Mad As Hell 1 year ago

I'm with you 100%. I will not fly anymore. "I Will Not Fly Anymore-Your Goons Are Much Scarier". Great quote, I'm going to remember that. The Military Commissions Act of 2006 made it possible for any Federal employee, like some TSA flunkee, to declare ANY AMERICAN CITIZEN an "enemy combatant"-once that happens your rights as a citizen are GONE. Americans Are The New Terrorists. And this is only going to get worse. People, if you don't have to, DON'T FLY.

  • AK 1 year ago

Wow, you seem to be the most irrational person on this page, no wonder your daughter was horrified, she was raised by you! You dont have the right to fly, flying is a luxury. If you dont like it dont fly. And if you consider a pat down a "sexual experience" you need therapy. I was patted down by a police officer at the age of 12, does that make me gay and him a pedophile? Do us all a favor and take that plane to florida and jump out along the way.

  • Larry 1 year ago

    I will NEVER fly again....EVER....!!!!!

  • As a businessman in the south, my guys flew over 1400 flights this year. NO more, I will not ask them to submit to this type of treatment. We will just see how the near bankrupt airlines deal with that. Oh, I'm sure they will probably get a bailout with taxpayer money too. Stand up for your rights and fight back against this corrupt government. Liars and thieves...all of them. Now add pedophiles and perverts.

  • Fed Up 1 year ago

There is one glaring fact that must be brought up, the groping only started when a bill was proposed to ensure the body scanners would not ever be used as a mandatory source of screening. Only after this bill came forward did TSA start their agressive dehumanizing, criminal molestation campaign. TSA is in a race against the clock to make sure that Chertoff's machines are accepted and mandatory. By Dehumanizing the citizen, the goal is to scare them into using these machines. They want these machines to be mandatory and the primary screening source to protect Chertoff's profits not your rights

  • TSA watcher 1 year ago

Why many and so many of american people do not have any clue of those government abuse of power. I am from Asia and had enough of these government corruption like these. Have you ever trying to think how many of retirees from those defense agencies had given lavish post maybe $200k/y at the machine makes. Name of safety? At the first place, who created Al-Kei-Da? That's your heroism goverment, USA.

  • justiceGuy 1 year ago

I feel sorry for those who MUST fly, ask yourself haw many people who pose a threat to us have been taken into custody. They have target an 8yr old boyscout in the past Michael Hicks (google him). If you put your things in a bag which is checked, property get stolen and wasn't Tom Dashell wife on the board of Directors of the firm that manufactures these devices. Hire Blackwater and let thme shoot people who refuse!

So, what would happen if we all filled out job applications at the TSA and included frisking and fondling as job skills?

  • Annie 1 year ago

Yey - I'm doing the HAPPY DANCE just hoping that this "no fly day" will keep thousands and thousands of you idiots on the ground and off the planes. As for me, I'll happily breeze thru the uncrowded airport, enjoy walking up to the check-in counter without waiting in line, smile during my "Cop-A-Feel" or "T & A Scan" enjoy a drink in a quiet airport bar, progress to the spacious boarding area and enjoy a peaceful, safe, quiet flight. Hey, I've got a thought . . . . . how 'bout all of you just opt out of flying FOREVER and do the rest of us a favor.

  • Nice 1 year ago

We'll see you on the road after airlines start going bankrupt and others need to charge exuberant rates to survive. You really think airline's will operate empty planes? right.

  • Simon 1 year ago

I'm just going to assume that you don't have any young children. While I generally have the "quit getting so moral panic-y" attitude that you are exhibiting, being a parent makes me have issues with these new security policies. My 8 year old daughter has to either be seen (and photographed!) nude by a stranger who *could* be a pedophile for all I know, or frisked and stroked on the genitals by the same? I don't think so.

  • Anne 1 year ago

You can do your happy dance when your flight is cancelled too because airlines aren't going to send a plane that isn't filled. They are losing money as it is.

  • Worried American 1 year ago

They are just fighting for our freedom and 4th amendment. If you havent noticed the security is getting tigther and year after year it will turn out bad for everyone. Your happy (now) for these people doing this but down the road your freedoms as an American will be wiped out. Everyone who thinks that the government is getting to big for itself is right. Our founding fathers wanted the people to run the government not the other way around.

  • jbmliu 1 year ago

i'm doing a happy dance because i will never again find myself in an airplane where i might unfortunately find myself seated next to a brainless moron like you.

I would bet that all of you who complain about this new security would be the first to complain about poor security if their plane was camptured by terrorists.
I feel safer flying where these new scaners are situated.
Who cares if someone sees a blurry picture of my naked body. It's not like they will ever see me again or even know who I am.

If you guys block me from getting on a plane I will beat your ass. I do not care if what they do as long as the person next to me does not have a bomb. Stop crying and grow up. • minitman 1 year ago

That's not a bad idea, except for this: what about all the illegal immigrants, and the terrorists themselves? they probably won't get their gps devices, even if they are mandatory! because they don't respect the law! and even if they did, who pays for it? We do! try to think your stupid ideas thru b4 u post

Anyone who is disillusioned enough to believe that the TSA employee’s are competent enough to operate anything effectively or even consistently do anything right is a moron. I used the same scanners on drivers in Iraq that drove supply trucks up and down the MSR; the idea of using it on American Citizens let alone Children is offensive. The day one of these degenerate monkeys goes near my kids or wife I will remove their hands permanently. If you’re ok with this nonsense when you fly home this holiday after being scanned or groped make sure to kiss your mother and then slap her across the face for giving birth to such a useless douche bag.

  • ConcernedTraveler 1 year ago

I’m amazed at the ignorance of the TSA. Wasn’t it pilots that slammed into the Twin Towers??? Yet the TSA will not require pilots to be subjected to a full body search. Where is the wisdom in that?
It seams to me that bomb sniffing dogs would be much more effective then TSA agents groping women and men. Dogs can be trained to sniff out drugs, land mines, bombs and many other things, so lets use them and eliminate the risks associated with radian exposure and embarrassment of being groped in public by a stranger.

  • TSA = Terror Sexual Assault 1 year ago

Actually the pilots were killed and the planes were flown by the terrorists. The pilots cabins are now securely locked and stay locked throughout the flight as a result of 9/11 ... today it would be impossible to hijack a plane, the strip searches are a result of some a-hole wearing a chemical "bomb" inside his shoe which is why we all have to take our shoes off today, these scanners are a bit too much, the pleasure of flying has been lost, it's no fun anymore, domestically, I will take the train whenever I can.

  • pilot 1 year ago

You are amazed at the ignorance of the TSA? WOW, and yet you claim it was the pilots who slammed the planes into the towers. How does it feel to be dumber than TSA?

  • Mountain Man 1 year ago

Try this....You got it! You hit the nail on the head. Everyone should strip to their underwear. No scanner needed no pat downs. Look but don't touch. You want a new theme that is it. Further more its a procedure used by the goverment in the recuit medical precess. So America take off your clothing and tell them ...look but don't touch. Just as you would a child.

  • Doc 1 year ago

Absolutely ridiculous posts in all. Concerned Mother and first sexual experience. Nazis. Goons -- Cm'on people. I fly very frequently and no, I don't like the security lines and no, I don't like being touched and yes -- I am for profiling (sorry kids -- that is what Israel does). I don't like my 85 yr old mother being scanned. But to protest on the Wed before Thanksgiving? What idiot thought that up? TSA will work at TSA's speed -- slow and the people that will suffer are those that are trying to get somewhere to see their families. Hope you are not in front of me if you decide to protest. Cut the hysterics -- make a clear point and do something effective. (by the way, the people doing the screeining are not our enemy -- you might want to thank them if they do a good job).

  • BDO 1 year ago

You will be pleased to know that TSA has dealt with the situation nicely- they are not going to let the opt outers slow things down, they will just escort tehm to the back of the line and let them try again, so as not to slow down the normal travellers.
Is TSA evolving? this is the first time i can remember them being this clever.

  • vyctorlazlow 1 year ago

I've got a few thoughts on this whole concept, but it turned too long to write in this response box... look here (http://vyctorlazlow.blogspot.com/2010/11/dont-touch-my-junk-and-related-...) for an in-depth rebuttal of all this fussing and fuming. As someone deeply involved in the US counter-terrorism effort, I simply feel compelled to point out that as long as there is a functioning and serious terrorist threat, this type of uninformed complaining represents a real problem for us as a nation. And unfortunately we're at least a little ways off from seeing Al-Qa'ida fade away.

  • Chad 1 year ago

Flying is not a right, it's a privilege. And freedom does not come free. We are at serious threat of terrorist attacks when we fly, as evidenced by several attempts to blow up airplanes in the past 2 years that luckily failed, but what if they hadn't? What if your mother, brother, sister, etc... had died in one of the attempted bombings? Would you still be protesting? I would rather be scanned, or have to stand in lines, then to be killed. We are dealing with our lives, not nuisances. It is selfish, and not liberal, to protest against something that would make flying safe again... something that would give us more freedom, freedom to get home to our families safely... not take it away.

  • A Born Free American 1 year ago

This is a First Amendment Violation to Constitutional Civil Rights. When will people get it that the boundaries have been broken .
What rights will exist when all this is done? None! Left wing moonbat society. People without boundaries use exploratory probing on non criminal citizens for normal public travel. This is outrageous a sign of society at large. Go to the Statehouse in your State. Pick up the Constitution and read it. Then and only then will you understand the Violations you have experienced. This is brainwashing to a child. This is criminal to parents rights a miscarriage of judicial juris prudence and a travesty to a young person traveling that someone can actually see their nude bodies on a scanner that is not a physician their personal physician and that some dude or female in a uniform just checked them out.
