Nicolas Cendoya says, “We weren't meant to die” of the days he and Kyndall Jack were lost in the Cleveland National Forest. The two went for a hike and got disoriented, and were missing for four days. NBC Bay Area shared the details of what Cendoya had to say on April 7.
Cendoya says that during the days they were lost in the forest, he was hallucinating and dreaming on-and-off. He notes that he could see the search helicopters flying over them, but he couldn't believe it when firefighters finally located him. Cendoya, 19, and Jack, 18, were found not far from their car, but a dead cell phone kept them from reaching out to family.
Nicolas Cendoya was found a day before Kyndall Jack, and it seems they got separated during their hike in the Trabuco Canyon. The hikers luckily were okay, but experienced some cuts and bruises along with dehydration. Cendoya was released from the hospital Sunday, while Jack remains hospitalized in a separate hospital for now.
Many thought that it was looking unlikely Nicolas Cendoya and Kyndall Jack would be found, but it seem Nicolas simply feels they weren't meant to die. Dozens of searchers worked day and night to find them, as both officials and lay people dug in with a vigorous determination to find the two teens.
