Harley Pasternak, trainer to stars such as Halle Berry and Jessica Simpson, has a new book that hit bookstores Tuesday. We talked with him today about his new "Body Reset Diet" (Rodale Books, $25.99 and the new Shaklee 180 weight-loss program that he's working with in a video interview.
The Shaklee plan leans heavily on smoothies, snack bars, teas and nutritional supplements for the first 90 days, which falls in line with Pasternak's "Body Reset Diet," already No. 7 on the which has you drink lots of complete-meal smoothies the first five days and then add regular meals back in after that jump start.
"People who lose the most amount of weight in the first week of a weight-loss program are far more likely to stick with the program and be successful in the long term," Pasternak told us Wednesday afternoon. "And that feeling, that 'Wait a minute, I can do that,' those compliments that come in the first few days of the program, your clothing fitting you differently in the first few days of the program -- you say 'Wow, this is possible. I am transforming my body, and if I can do this after this many days, what's going to happen after two weeks or three or four or six months?
"So, feeling good and feeling optimistic and feeling successful right when you start carries right over to the end."
Pasternak’s book outlines his weight-loss plan and includes recipes for smoothies, meals and snacks, sections on exercise and how to transition between sections of the plan.
