Really, we can. We can not, however, tolerate sin. The Pope is not getting too many brownie points from heaven these days. He is asking us to accept sin, allow it to permeate our society. If you are a believer in God, an almighty and just God, then you cannot accept being lax in your spiritual walk. The Pope, who is suppose to be a holy man, is setting himself up to lead a whole denomination through the gates of hell.
The Bible states clearly that sin has no place in heaven. No sin, whether it is personal or public, can enter heaven's gates. No one is perfect by any means, but if he has asked and received forgiveness for his sin, then he may enter heaven. If we practice sin without the forgiveness then our destination would be hell. But, you say, God does not send anyone to hell because he is Love. So true. He does not.
We go to hell because we send ourselves there. God gave us a free will, the ability to decide how to live our lives. If we choose to travel that road that leads to hell, then we made that decision. If we chose to follow that road and we change our minds, then God has provided an intersection for us to go around the block and head toward heaven. Or if you are in a hurry, you could make a u-turn. Either way, the road we travel, we travel because we made that decision.
The majority of the Catholic Church will be like sheep and follow the leader to slaughter. Will you be one of them? I sincerely hope not. Because God loves us, he has provided a way for us to enter into Heaven through Jesus. If we accept this provision, then we are going to enter Heaven because we want to live through eternity. So my suggestion to you is, do not listen to a man, no matter how important he is. Listen to God. You can't go wrong.
