We are to be the salt of the earth

A Daily Word from the Word for Wednesday, January 30, 2012

“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?” –Matthew 5:13

Jesus tells us in the book of Matthew that we are the salt of the earth. Do you realize how significant, how impactful salt is? Salt is so woven into our lives that human beings use and benefit from Sodium Chloride (salt) more than any other compound on the planet! We have over 14,000 uses for salt, with the most obvious applications as a seasoning and also a preservative. This useful compound is so plentiful, that there is more than enough to go around without ever having to worry about running out!

The Greek word moraino (pr. mo-rah-ee-no) is the same word for both “loses” and “flavor” and means “to become insipid, lose savor (taste)” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). We were created to preserve and carry God’s Word. We are made to carry God’s Spirit within us and touch other peoples’ lives who have not yet come to the realization that they need a Savior. The Bible tells us that we are blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:1-3). We have savor when we carry and intersperse the Savior.

Think about this: an athlete needs to continue to engage in the sport that they have a natural propensity for in order to get better, stay sharp, and not lose their edge. If they stop playing their sport, they are going to begin to lose their “salt.” Vehicles need to be driven or they begin to get clogged up and gunked up. At our very core, we human beings were made in the image of Our Creator- our Heavenly Father. When we continue to act out that which we were created to do, we continue to be effective, stay sharp, and perpetuate life.

When we choose not to do what we were created to do, we begin to break down, we atrophy, which can manifest itself in depression, weight loss/gain, irritability, and physical sickness. The best medicine for your soul is to make manifest the Glory of God so that others are touched, become blessed; and in turn, they too become a blessing.

Father, thank You for blessing us to be a blessing to others! Thank You that we are salt. We are honored that You have chosen us as your vessels with which to carry Your Spirit and make manifest Your Glory, so that lives can be touched and changed. Thank You, Holy Father, that You count us worthy to be your vessels. Teach us and guide us that we may do what You have created us to do. In Jesus Name, we pray, we praise you, and we thank You for your favor, your savor, and your blessings. Amen and Amen!

Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to not allow the wiles or the heaviness of this world to suck you in and weigh you down. Choose to rise above, renew your strength by putting your hope in The Lord, soar with your Father on eagles’ wings above the clouds, run and not grow weary, and walk and not become faint (Isaiah 40:28-31). Choose to increase your savor by spreading around the Savior. Choose to do good as a weapon against the enemy. And fight the good fight of never losing your flavor; for God, your Ultimate Salt Shaker, has already given you the victory!

God tells us that we are blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:2). Be a blessing to someone by sending them this word of encouragement. If God did not already put someone in your spirit and on your heart who needs to read this uplifting message from above, simply ask your Heavenly Father who to bless on today. Forward this message right now by email, facebook, or twitter.

May God Bless you and keep you always.

With warmest regards,

And, in service of The Most High King,

Matthew
