Many families find it cheaper to travel to Walt Disney World by car. Not only will they have the comforts of having access to their personal vehicle, it also can save money from having to pay airfare for a typical family of four. Depending upon how far you live from Central Florida, a drive may take several hours to a couple of days. Keeping the kids occupied during that time, without hassling mom and dad by asking “Are we there yet?” over and over can be a tiresome task.
Here are some activities that can easily be played while driving to the Happiest Place on Earth.
Travel with others you know who are going to Disney. It can be friends or family. Bring walkie talkies in the car and play games with each other. Kids can carry conversations and make plans with the other kids during the drive. Time will fly by while they are chatting away.
License plate game
Count the different types of license plates you see while driving. Better yet, print out a list for each state and Canadian territory. Highlight or cross each state off as you see a license plate from it. For younger kids, print actual pictures of the plates. Make it a game to see who can get the most plates crossed off their list.
Pass the time by seeing who can find words on the signs along the road that begin with the different letters of the alphabet. The trick is you have to go in ABC order.
Have kids say that they see something it can be in the car or on the road somewhere. They give you a clue and you have to guess what it is, or was. Because you are driving 60 MPH+ (depending upon which highway you are traveling) the item they may have seen could be in your rear view mirror and long gone. So it is important you are quick at this version of the classic game.
