Warner Bros. has released the first official image from The CW’s “The Flash”, giving us a clear look at actor Grant Gustin in costume as he’ll appear in the upcoming superhero series. Despite having already appeared in two “Arrow” episodes as Barry Allen, the new photo gives us our first look at the actual suit design that Gustin will be sporting on the small screen. Designed by Academy Award-winner Colleen Atwood, the same designer behind Stephen Amell’s “Arrow” costume, the new suit appears to be a faithful adaptation of the DC Comics character while sporting a darker shade of red than the comics.

“Barry Allen is a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past,” says the studio’s official description of the character. “A comic book fan boy, Barry is obsessed with the Arrow unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity to solve the crime has brought him right into the dangerous world of the vigilante. ”

Written by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, the series will begin production next week with the pilot episode being directed by David Nutter.
