World Happy Day is Feb 11. Thousands of people from around the globe get together to participate in this annual event by coming out for a screening of a film called Happy.
From award winning filmmaker Roko Belic, produced by Tom Shadyac (Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty) “Happy combines cutting edge science from the new field of positive psychology with real life stories of people from around the globe.”
For example:
We see a mother of three, whose life radically changes when she is run over by a truck. Disabled for life, amazingly she is happier now than before the accident.
Or, a rickshaw puller who lives in a mud hut in India with his large family seems as happy as any family in America with all their creature comforts.
The film explores on a deeper level, the meaning of the word, finding happiness is more of a spiritual quest than a “chasing the dream” quest.
There will be a screening of Happy Saturday, February 11, downtown Los Angeles at the Downtown Independent Theater, 251 Main Street, LA 90013 (213) 617 1033

Below are some ideas from their website on how you might find more happiness in your life. And it costs nothing.
The end result is happy people are contagious; they make those around them happy, which in turn makes them happier. They also tend to have better relationships, home lives perform better at school, and work, are more creative, healthier and live longer.
Ideas:
Exercise: Admittedly, nothing new here, but it works. Dopamine is the magic formula and we all have it organically, some more than others, but it’s a well that needs to be tapped. Exercise will “pump it up,” specifically aerobics. It can be running, tennis, dancing, biking, and surfing, chasing your kids, walking. Whatever you like, as long as it’s a routine, and then a habit. Feeling good is addictive; if you can find something you like to do three times a week that makes your heart race for 30 minutes, you will be surprised at the results.
Hobbies:I know this sounds like gardening, but it’s not. Find something that has noting to do with your home or work life and put creative time into it. It doesn’t matter if you are building Legos or writing the great American novel, painting candles or entering art competitions. The rewards back are multiple. This is something you are doing on our own, with a result and there is a high level of satisfaction in that, which produces dopamine.
Socialize: How many times have you balk at going out, spending time with family or friends, then finally went, and had a great time “Oh yeah, I’m fun to be around.” It’s very rewarding to see others enjoy your company, and you theirs.
Get involved: Be a part of something bigger than you. There are unlimited possibilities, charities, and service organizations, helping others that need support, smiling at hour neighbor! When you do good acts, you feel better about yourself. It’s a guarantee.
Practice Gratitude. There are a lot of ways to do this. You can make a mental or written list of the things you are grateful for, now matter how small. You could also write a letter to someone thanking him or her for helping you secure some Cold Play tickets. We have no idea if someone feels slighted for not being thanked. And also, it feels good when someone sends you a letter of thanks.
So, give it a try, get happy. You have nothing to lose.
