Actor Wayne Knight, most famously known for playing the role of nosy neighbor Newman on "Seinfeld," was reportedly killed in an accident with a tractor-trailer on the evening of Saturday, March 15, 2014, by TMZ Today. Well, maybe he wasn't and is simply the next victim in a long line of celebrity death hoaxes that end up swamping the web over and over.
A site called TMZ Today reported that Knight was killed when his vehicle slammed into a disabled semi-tractor-trailer in Pennsylvania. The site gave a lot of details about the accident and even included tweets from someone claiming to be a fireman and heading to the accident.
On the morning of Sunday, March 16, 2014, Wayne Knight posted on Twitter:
"Does someone have to DIE to trend? Geez! Thanks for all the love everybody. I didn't know you cared. Glad to be breathing."
Before that, he had said that some may be "strangely disappointed," but he was "alive and well!"
TMZ Today looks to be a cleverly disguised hoax website that obviously, and closely, resembles TMZ. Not only does it look the same as the popular celebrity gossip site, but it even includes most of the exact same stories.
Included in those stories on TMZ Today are a number of fake stories as well. That seems to include the death of Wayne Knight, which obviously didn't happen.
