Bikini weather is closing in on us and it's time to start prepping for that beach vacation. If you've been psyching yourself up to try a Brazilian wax, there's a few things you should know prior to scheduling your appointment. First, understand the difference between a basic bikini wax and a Brazilian wax. A bikini wax is the removal of hair that falls outside of the bikini area. A Brazilian is the complete removal of hair inside and outside the bikini area (front and back). The shorter the hair, the more comfortable the procedure. However, the hair must be at least a quarter inch long. A good rule of measure is the length of a pencil eraser. To achieve this length, it's best to shave the area at home. Then let it grow out for 2 weeks. If you're prone to unsightly razor bumps, redness and irritation, try using an electric bikini shaver instead. Trim the hairs as close as possible. Avoid having this done if you are on your menstrual cycle. Also, try to relax. Don't be shy, and offer to assist if needed. Stretching the skin as tight as possible helps make the therapist's job easier and the procedure less painful. The results last for up to six weeks! House of Glow, a day spa in Winston Salem offers Brazilian waxing services for $50. To book an appointment, go to www.houseofglow.com.
