Waxing nostalgic about relationships

Sunday, June 8, 2014: Find time today for the things that you really like and let the pleasure you experience rejuvenate your taste for the joys of life.

As the day begins to wane, honor this evening's Moon Void-of-course in the relationship oriented sign of Libra (3:47 pm - 6:38 am tomorrow) and Mercury's current retrograde in the nostalgic sign of Cancer (June 7 - July 1) by turning your attention inward and examining your emotional roots, and how those emotional memories of past relationships, influence all your current relationships... including your relationship with yourself.

A quick way to induce nostalgia is through music. So turn on some music, let it transport you back to another time and place and set off a flood of memories of friends, family members, holidays, weddings, songs, sunsets, family road trips, hot summer nights and young heartbreak.

Follow this link to listen to the 10 top songs for each month... from Jan. 1950 until Dec. 1990 and see what memories are evoked. Then, let yourself feel, laugh, cry and process everything without judgment and without giving in to the story.

Keep in mind that the road down memory lane can be hazy and blurry. And while it's your memories that lead you to certain thoughts and beliefs about yourself and others, your memory is also selective, self-centered and not necessarily factual. It can and will suppresse, ignore or manipulate facts that undermine its story and embrace those that support it.

In other words, your memory is faulty, what you recall is only an emotional self-centered facsimile of things gone by. The good news! Your memory is not fixed. It changes each time you re-remember some event... and the time has now come to do some important re-writing and editing of your memoir.

Today's Quote

A memoir is how one remembers one’s own life, while an autobiography is history, requiring research, dates, facts double-checked... It is more about what can be gleaned from a section of one’s life than about the outcome of the life as a whole. ~ Gore Vidal, in his own memoir Palimpsest
