In celebration of Red Ribbon Week and living drug-free lives, Waunakee Intermediate School students released their newest YouTube video entitled "Red Ribbon Walk 2010" on November 4th.
As defined by the US DEA website, "Red Ribbon Week is the nation's oldest and largest drug-prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to DEA Special Agent, "Enriqué "Kiki" Camarena."
In a sea of red, students are shown walking the school halls, modeling various sports uniforms and carrying sporting equipment. These items, like bike helmets, hockey masks, and basketballs, are meant to represent activities the students choose to do instead of doing drugs. The background music of the video is Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" and contains the poignant statement, "I just wanna live while I'm alive"...which is exactly what the tweens at WIS are pledging and celebrating in this video.
The tweens at Waunakee Intermediate School are no stranger to YouTube video fame. Last year, they produced their version of the infamous "Pink Glove Dance" to honor cancer survivors, and loved ones who have been lost to the disease. To date, the video has had over 13,000 views. Watch here.
Great job, kids!
