Mac's Drive-In is about to join the lineup of seasonal Capital Region eateries that have been opening over the past month.

The business, located at 648 Third Avenue in Watervliet, Albany County, will open for its fifth season at 11 a.m. Friday.

The McDonald family, who own and operate the business, sells all the usual drive-in foods, but is perhaps best known for their ice cream and ices made on-premises. This year's new flavor will be Vliet Party Cake. Last year’s newcomer, Grandma’s Maple Bacon ice cream, will be back.

Other flavors include chocolate peanut butter cup, maple walnut, Cannoneer Crunch -- a salute to the nearby Watervliet Arsenal -- as well as maple walnut, and lemon, mango, cherry and raspberry ices.

Mac's is located a block south of the Arsenal and will be open through October. Hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Phone: (518) 279-7899.
