Still in time for summer fun, Santa’s Splash Down WaterPark is now open at Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort in Santa Claus, Indiana.
The new water park features a total of five water slides including two that were previously owned by nearby Holiday World Theme Park & Splashin' Safari Water Park.
"Our goal is to keep improving the amenities our guests can experience during their stay,” said Dave Lovell, marketing director for Lake Rudolph.
Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort has been a summer destination for my family for more than a decade. We would stay there so we could go to next-door Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, as well as the other attractions in Santa Claus.
But now, I think, we are going to have to add a couple more days to our annual visit just to enjoy everything that Lake Rudolph offers – including the brand new Santa’s Splash Down WaterPark.
“So far, the feedback has been very positive,” Lovell said. “Families are telling us they are planning to spend an extra day or two enjoying all that we offer here at Lake Rudolph."
TONS OF WATER FUN
The former Bamboo Chute & AmaZOOM from Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari have been refurbished and reinstalled at the new Lake Rudolph water park.
"We have given new life to these iconic water slides and they really look nice in our resort setting," Lovell said.
Two of the new water slides are fiberglass slides. The first fiberglass slide is partially enclosed with a length of 344 feet. The second slide is fully enclosed and 296 feet long.
Both fiberglass slides use inner tubes and guests need to be a minimum of 42″ to ride.
In addition, an inflatable water slide called the Trippo features three slides. At three stories tall, the Trippo is the world’s largest inflatable water slide! The longest and center slide is 136 feet in length and the side slides are 113 feet long.
A paid wristband is required to ride the water slides. The all-day price will be $8.95 per person, per day. Next day wristbands are $4.95 per person (you must purchase the next day band prior to leaving the water park for the day and they must be used on the consecutive day).
After 5 p.m., the wristbands are just $5.95 per person and you can still get the next day wristband at $4.95.
On our visit this June, the water park wasn’t quite ready to open. But Lake Rudolph has so much else to do that our young ones were quite happy and so were we.
Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort features 500 family lodging options, including rental RVs, cabins, full-hookup RV sites and tent sites. The resort is open daily May 1 through Oct. 31.
Rudolph’s Christmas Cabins will also be available for lodging on weekends during the Christmas season, Nov. 29 through Dec. 30.
HISTORY OF LAKE RUDOLPH
Lake Rudolph Campsites was opened by the Koch family in 1958. The Kochs owned Santa Claus Land next door and wanted to give visitors a place to stay.
Opened behind the Koch family home, the campground was built around a 7-acre lake with a beach and swimming area. It was an immediate success, and has grown considerably in scope and function since.
The Koch family built a new home in Christmas Lake Village and their old home was transformed into the campground office and meeting space. A short time later, the name was then to Lake Rudolph Outdoor Resort.
On Dec. 27, 2008, an accidental fire destroyed most of the Lake Rudolph main office building, the original home of Bill & Pat Koch. In 2011, a new office was completed.
CHRISTMAS ALL YEAR ROUND
To make our visit this summer even more Christmasy, we stayed two nights in the new Christmas Cabins and one night in the rental RVs at Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort.
The cabins are huge and great for multi-generation or multi-family visits. Our cabin had two bedrooms plus a large loft upstairs with four twin beds, plus bedcovers for the beds. The cabins also have three flat screen TVs, electric fireplaces, fully equipped kitchens, large decks, gas grills, heat and air conditioning, and bathrooms with showers and tubs. For a holiday touch, the cabin had Christmas lights and a wreath inside the cabin, along with framed Christmas scenes on the wall.
Like its big sibling Holiday World, Lake Rudolph offers gracious freebies for guests – free Wi-Fi, free mini golf, free fishing and free shuttles to and from Holiday World. We rode the shuttle and it was a very handy quick way to get from the campground to Holiday World.
Lake Rudolph also has daily planned activities along with a playground, swimming pool, basketball courts, horseshoes, paddleboats, gem mining, game room, camp store and more. That is why we tacked on that extra day at the last minute and rented the RV.
The RV’s also are comfortable with two bedrooms, living room, equipped kitchen and bathroom with shower and tub. Since we hadn’t planned on staying that extra night, we rented sheets, pillow cases and pillows for an extra $15 for the RV. Not bad at all. No TVs in the RVs, which is fine with me. We never lacked for fun things to do.
Just can’t seem to get enough of Christmas and Santa Claus – at any time of year.
