Georgia O'Keeffe said, "To create one's world in any of the arts takes courage."
Luckily, The Watermill Center (www.watermillcenter.org) supports the arts and supports the artists that have chosen to create their respective world in the arts! To that end, on July 26, 2014 The Watermill Center, located at 39 Water Mill Towd Road, Water Mill, New York will be having its One Thousand Nights and One Night:Sleepless Nights of Sheherazade, 21st Annual Watermill Center Benefit.
Now what is the mission of The Watermill Center?
Watermill is a laboratory for performance founded by Robert Wilson as a unique environment for young and emerging artists from around the world to explore new ideas. Watermill draw its inspiration from all of the arts and cultures as well as from the social, human and natural sciences. Watermill is a global community of artists who live and work together among the extensive collection of art and artifacts that lies at the hear of the Watermill experience. Watermill is a haven for the next generations of arts, supporting their work among a network of international institutions and venues that embrace new interdisciplinary approaches.
So at this important fundraising even, The Watermill Center will be bringing together the worlds of theater, art, fashion, design, and society. The Watermill International Summer Program Participants who are presently at the center who come from over 25 countries will be creating installations and performances throughout the eight and a half acres of grounds during the actual event. The funds raised from this event will support The Watermill Center's year round Artist Residency Programs, providing a unique and supportive environment for young and emerging artists to explore and develop new work in a safe and courageous fashion.
