Water wonders: Cane Creek Falls

If you look closely on your left you'll see someone sitting on the edge of the falls

While Fall Creek Falls gets most of the attention in the state park bearing its name, there are plenty of other water wonders in its 20-thousand acres to keep you happy.

Coming in from the east side of the park (and TN 30), you'll find Cane Creek Falls, just downstream from Cane Creek Cascades.

An overlook just a short distance from the parking lot is located in a well developed area of the park complete with picnic pavilions, a playground and a Nature Center.  Here you'll also find a permanent park map along with explanations about the geology of the area.   The Nature Center highlights the many animals and plants you'll find in the park.

The smooth rock walkway near the Nature Center gives you access to the overlook at the falls and access to the Cascades just a short trip upstream.   At the overlook you get a great view of the pool of water created when Cane Creek falls 85 feet.  Looking closely, you may see a brave soul sitting on the edge of the falls, but frankly I wouldn't recommend getting that close.

A view of Cane Creek at the base of the falls

At the overlook,  you are actually standing beside the waterfall, instead of in front of it.  Because of this, your view of the falls isn't the best.   However, you can sometimes see people down below taking advantage of the cool pool of water on a hot summer day.

Another water feature,  Rockhouse Falls, is off to your right.  For the best views of either falls you you need to hike to the bottom of the falls or to the overlook across from you.

Fall Creek Falls, the Cane Creek Gulf Scenic Drive, &Piney Creek Falls are all a short drive away.
