Methods of water exercise include self-directed exercises and classes. Which you choose depends on your schedule, motivation level, knowledge base, desire to socialize and fitness level. Classes can be a lot of fun, but require a time commitment and structure, which isn't for everyone. Whichever form you choose, water exercise can be great for cross-training or as one's primary form of exercise.
