Water Country USA has combined water and gravity to create a thrilling addition to the Williamsburg waterpark’s lineup of high-speed slides, flumes, lazy river and other watery attractions. Inspired by the point on a wave where water meets gravity, Vanish Point is a drop slide that lets riders choose their own method of “liquid adrenalin.”
The Vanish Point tower is at a head-rushing height of 75 feet. As riders step into a skybox, the floor drops out, sending them straight down. Or, go horizontal on a 300-foot speed slide where you “drop down as soon as you flop down.”
In a recent press release, Larry Giles, vice president of design and engineering at Busch Gardens and Water Country USA, said
“When we develop a new attraction plan we look at what we've done in the past, what rides resonate with theme park goers today and what would make an appropriate addition to the parks' future.”
After a three-year process of research, planning, reviewing theme parks around the world and presenting to focus groups, construction began last fall and is on schedule to open in spring of 2011.
