The word of the day for his legal-age drinking game was “Oprah.” When the word is spoken during the show, fans take a sip of their drink when each night a different word is highlighted. The bartender for the night was the creative director of “O” Magazine, Adam Glassman.
Andy held up the latest magazine cover with Oprah donning a huge Afro wig, and Andy told Oprah and fans that he has a sizable Jew-fro. They even superimposed Andy’s face on the cover with the gigantic wig; earrings and all!
Andy’s three obsessions of the day were: Oprah’s new film that opens today in theaters, called “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.” Then Andy asked Oprah to read the line and slap him, as she did to David Oyelowo, who played her son in the movie. (Fans recall that he did the same thing to Cher asking her to recreate the line in “Moonstruck” where she slapped Nicholas Cage.)
As a college student, Andy never missed Oprah’s classic talk show and cried along with the rest of the fans when she gave some of her most heartwarming stories. Andy asked Oprah if she introduced him in the same manner she did when she had famous guests on, and she gladly sang out his name as she proclaimed that she was on the “A-n-d-y C-o-h-e-n” show!
He then played “Plead the Fifth” game with her, where he asked her three questions, and she could only plead the fifth on one. First question; when was the last time you smoked week? She replied 1982. Second question; name one guest at the “Legends Ball” that you wish you hadn’t invited? She honestly said that there was nobody there, she regretted inviting and did not regret giving them all diamonds. Last question; name a politician you interviewed, whose intellect was unimpressive to you? To this, she pleaded the fifth.
When a fan question came in regarding Whitney Houston asking Oprah if she wished she had taken her to task about her addiction and been tougher with her; she replied that she did not regret this. Prior to an interview, she states her part in the interview and the part of the person being interviewed. She does not feel that she did not take her to task, either. She also stated that when interviewing people, she was not out to “get them.”
Asked how she compared her role in the current film to “The Color Purple,” there was no comparison. The first film was made 27 years ago, before anyone knew her name, and she was just so enamored after reading the book. Andy said that in this movie, she played an alcoholic, which was not easy for her to do.
A caller asked her what her biggest a-ha moment was when she received a lot of flak from the media because the OWN Network was not doing so well. She had been telling people all her life to hang in there and follow their dreams, and it was happening to her at that very time. When they turned it around, and the OWN Network started to succeed, she was happy to have taken her own advice and not listen to the naysayers.
The other questions were; to Andy as to what Oprah smelled like, which he stated she smelled like flowers, but she admitted she did not wear scents, so whatever the soap from the hotel was; that is how she smelled.
She answered a classic WWHL question by saying she never took a dip in the lady pond, and both she and Gayle have never had an argument unless it was business-related, and that had to be only two arguments in over thirty years as best friends.
The Mazel of the Day was Oprah’s hair, and Andy gave a retrospective of the changes she made over the years as she oohed and shrieked at the changes. In honor of Oprah’s positivity, no Jackhole of the Day was given on this episode of "Watch What Happens: Live." Then Andy announced that the show would not return until September 8, and hoped fans enjoy the rest of the summer. See you in September, Andy!
