UFC 170 is mere days away as the world awaits the first matchup of Olympic medalist vs. Olympic medalist, as UFC women’s bantamweight champion, and former Bronze medal Olympic Judoka, Ronda Rousey, meets fellow undefeated combatant and former Olympic Silver medalist Sara McMann.
McMann, the all-world amateur wrestler is making just her second appearance inside the Octagon when she steps into the spotlight against “Rowdy” this Saturday from the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.
Critics point to McMann being far too “green” to give Rousey a viable test. However, some may remember Rousey being in the same situation not too long ago, and time has proven the hype to be warranted. A fact highlighted by Rousey taking the MMA world by storm, and paving the way for women in the UFC in the process.
No matter how the main event of UFC 170 shapes up, one thing remains clear: On Saturday night, Ronda Rousey will face the toughest test of her eight-fight career.
Also on the card is a co-main event between UFC newcomer and Cinderella story, Patrick Cummins, as he squares off with former heavyweight, and debuting light heavyweight Daniel Cormier.
As is accustomed, the UFC put together another episode of their wildly successful ‘Countdown’ series in anticipation of this historic card. This clip features packages on the rise of Rousey, the personal tragedy of Sara McMann, and the looming implications of their Olympian vs. Olympian showdown.
Full episode will be available at a later date.
