The Grand Prairie Memorial Library will be screening two Oscar hopeful films prior to the awards broadcast, which takes place on Sunday, February 26. So if you missed these two films nominated for Best Picture, or you just want to see them again, now’s your chance to make an informed decision whether they deserve to win!
Tuesday, February 14, 6 p.m.
The Help, based on the novel by Kathryn Stockett, and starring Viola Davis and Emma Stone is the story of a recent college graduate, and aspiring writer who turns a 1960s Mississippi town upside down when she writes a book from the point of view of “the help.” And those maids certainly do have a unique point of view!
This film also received Oscar nominations in the best actress and best supporting actress categories.
Tuesday, February 21, 6 p.m.
Moneyball, starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill, is an adaptation of the book by Michael Lewis. Based on a true story, the film tells the story of Oakland A’s manager Billy Beane’s attempt to draft and field a winning baseball team using computer-generated information, while also being budget-conscious.
This film is also nominated in the best actor, best supporting actor, film editing, sound mixing and adapted screenplay categories.
