Sundance favorite 'Cold In July' has now been given an official release date. The dark thriller will be hitting theaters and VOD on May 23, 2014. And the official trailer was released April 16, 2014.
The IFC film release stars 'Dexter' lead Michael C. Hall, who plays a father who gets in over his head after he kills a man breaking into his home. Although initially praised by his community for defending his family, things began to take a turn for the worse when he encounters the slain man's father (played by Sam Shepard).
Turns out like father, like son, as he's an ex-con consumed with revenge. 'Cold In July' is directed by Jim Mickel, the writer and star of underrated vampire film 'Stakeland' (which is currently being developed as a TV series).
In addition to Hall and Shephard and Mickel, the cast is rounded out Don Johnson. My first impression of the trailer is akin to a crime drama like 'Cape Fear', where a man is punished for simply defending those he loves.
At the very least it'll be interesting to see Hall play a person who kills as a last resort, and not for pleasure.
So check out the trailer and see what you think of 'Cold In July.'
