Watch: Trailer For Adam Wingard's "The Guest" With Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens

Opens September 2014

Last year, Lionsgate released a home invasion thriller titled You're Next. Despite some positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, the horror movie failed to click with mainstream audiences. Undaunted, director Adam Wingard is back with his frequent collaborator, writer Simon Barrett, with a genre mash-up that combines elements of The Terminator and Halloween with the aesthetic of movies made in the 1980s.

Titled The Guest and starring Dan Stevens ("Downton Abbey"), the horror pic played to positive response at the Austin, Tex. South By Southwest Film Festival in March 2014, and it will make its theatrical bow this September.

Empire Magazine called it "a demented action-horror hybrid of sci-fi conspiracy thriller and gore-fest", and Vanity Fair said, “THE GUEST is big, it’s bold, it’s badass, full of flavor Hollywood wishes it could pour over its vanilla blockbusters.”

Can't say I disagree. Dan Stevens is a major bad-ass. If you don't believe me, check out this trailer from Picturehouse (courtesy of Yahoo! Movies).

In addition to Stevens, The Guest stars Maika Monroe, Leland Orser ("The Bone Collector"), Sheila Kelley, Brendan Meyer and Lance Reddick ("Fringe", "The Wire"). It will open in theaters on September 17, 2014.

A soldier (Dan Stevens) introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.
