PBS released a sneak peek at the upcoming fourth season of Downton Abbey, the popular upstairs/downstairs period drama, which will premiere in the states January 5. The video hints at the return of familiar faces, with the Crawley daughters front and center, while also teasing the possibility of new plotlines (i.e. who is Cousin Rose kissing?).
The show is currently airing on the UK's ITV, facing off against Homeland on Channel 4 and trouncing its competition in the 9 PM slot with record-high ratings.
In the run-up to the fourth season's début, PBS plans to air Return to Downton Abbey, a behind-the-scenes promotional special hosted by Susan Sarandon that will recap previous seasons and introduce the fourth-season storyline, which picks up six months after the tragic Christmas episode. In its press release, PBS says the special will center around three themes: The Changing World of Downton Abbey, The Women of Downton Abbey and Love and Other Relationships at Downton Abbey. The special is set to air December 1.
