Watch the amazing new 'Godzilla' teaser trailer

A few months back moviegoers were given a teaser trailer for the upcoming remake/reboot of 'Godzilla.'

What was evident is that this giant lizard movie will be miles apart from the classic movie monster in tone and visuals. There is no campy visuals with a man in a monster suit. This Godzilla looks frightening and bleak, even from such scarce footage.

Well a longer teaser trailer was released Dec 10th, 2013, and it's jaw droppingly great.

The trailer opens with a group of paratroopers preparing to do a HALO jump into the signs of a charred city.

Actor David Straitharn ('Good Night And Good Luck') plays a military leader in charge of the jump, who tries to rally the troops to a cause that as he says "Frankly none of us have ever faced a situation quite like this before". This being Godzilla.

Through the breathy POV of one plummeting trooper we see just how much wreckage a Godzilla would do to a metropolitan area from a birds-eye view, and it's not pretty.

From there we're subjected to a barrage of flash cutting, showing clips featuring actors Bryan Cranston, Elisabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe and Julie Binoche interspersed with just enough hint of catastrophic destruction to give you chills (aided by a truly eerie score of wailing choral voices.)

There's hints or a nuclear threat, wide spread panic, and a city scape being smashed to bits, ending with a triumphant and haunting wail from the monster that shares the film's title. But the trampled terrain seems of unknown origin. Is it Japan, or an American city? No details yet.

'Godzilla' is directed by Gareth Edwards, who helmed 2010's 'Monsters', a movie that added depth and human drama to the B-movie giant monster genre. He's the perfect choice for making a viable 2014 'Godzilla' movie, that's proven even more by this fantastic trailer.

So give the new 'Godzilla' trailer a look and tell us your thoughts in the comments. 'Godzilla' will be released May 16th, 2014 through Legendary Pictures.
