Ever wonder what holds up all those flowers on a Rose Parade float? Three float-building locations offer visitors the opportunity to see beneath the botanicals in the final stages of the process during the last week of December. To see photos of step-by-step construction, click on “Tools of the Trade” in the “Suggested by Author” links.

Tickets to Decorating Places are available at the venues or through Sharp Seating. In a first this year, there will be a So Cal Appreciation Day on Dec. 27 for a discounted price of $5 per person. Price per person for Dec. 28-30 is $10 per day and for Dec. 31 is $15. Children age five and under are free.

Two of the facilities, Rose Palace and Rosemont Pavilion, are operated by Phoenix Decoration Company. They have long flights of stairs and narrow catwalks, so are difficult to navigate for people with limited mobility. The third, Brookside Pavilion is operated by the Tournament of Roses Association and is flat and easily accessible. Brookside Pavilion houses floats from Cal Poly and from Paradiso Parade Floats, and if room, the Rose Parade vehicles decorated by FTD.

Fiesta Parade Floats and Artistic Entertainment Services, both located in the east San Gabriel Valley, do not have pre-parade viewing hours, but their floats are on view at the post-parade Showcase of Floats.

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce sponsors a food court and exhibits at Expo Village, located in Lot I just south of Brookside Pavilion. Visitors can purchase beverages, snacks and lunch offered by various Pasadena restaurants and vendors.
