Life unfolds in an instant, don’t you think? Rarely do we have time to prepare for everything that is thrown at us. And so, with that in mind we come to view life as a long series of improvisations where we make it up as we go along. Sometimes everything works out, feeling like it all falls into place and then there are those unexpected moments when things could have gone just a little bit better. Lesson learned? Life is a risk.
“One Act” the fully improvised one-act play is the brainchild of director and local actor Meridith C. Grundei. Originally set to open a few weeks ago, but delayed by the unexpected event of a flood, “One Act” will go into the theatre Friday, October 4 at the Dairy Center for the Arts. The risk in this particular theatrical production is that the ensemble of artists will have never rehearsed, scripted or planned the play. Suggestions will be taken from the audience and then a play is created on the fly! No one knows, neither the audience or the performers, if they are going to experience a comedy or a tragedy. It will unfold, just like life. And, just like in life, the actors have only each other to lean on, along with a live musician, their creativity, spontaneity and their willingness to explore the unexplored.
The ONE ACT ensemble features the acting talents of Rebecca Brown Adelman, Elisabeth Bowman, Ed Cord, Heather Curran, Myles Goldin, Cindy Laudadio-Hill, Mike Malyar, Joseph Wolff Phillips, and James Walker. Musician Gary Grundei provides the musical soundscape!
Each show will be a unique, original creation where the cast will have everything they need to make a authentic believable experience. The one thing they truly need is you, an audience. So, take a risk and let their creativity unfold before your eyes.
ONE ACT has nine performances for their 2013-2014 season: Oct 4, Nov 1, and
