Top news here in San Francisco today is about the Whitney Houston funeral which will be streamed for fans to watch. The event takes place at 8am local San Francisco time on Saturday, January 18, 2012. It will be watched from Hunters Point to Pacific Heights and all over the Bay Area.

(Local newspaper, the SF Chronicle, as an aside, reports that you can see videos of the five songs that defined Whitney Houston's career here at the SFGate Culture Blog: blog.sfgate.com/culture)

According to the news source, newser.com, Whitney Houston's funeral will be chock full of Hollywood celebrities.

"It will be a very sad and solemn affair," says San Francisco resident and Whitney Houston fan, Lisa Colbert. "The world has lost a wonderful singer and she will be greatly missed."

The VIPs present will include people like Oprah, Beyoncé and Elton John, says newser.com.

The New Jersey Star-Ledger gives a list of others who will also attend (like Bill Cosby, David Bowie, Jay-Z, Elton John), those who will speak (Dionne Warwick, Tyler Perry, Clive Davis) and those who will perform at the funeral (Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, R. Kelly).

The funeral is not open to the public and in fact is invitation-only. It will take place at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, where Houston first started singing. At that time, Houston was given the nickname of "Nippy."

Kevin Costner, who starred in the movie The Bodyguard with her, will also pay tribute to Houston at the funeral, says the New York Daily News.

Bobby Brown, Houston's ex-husband will be in attendance although there were many rumors circulating that he was not invited. People magazines says that the rumors were simply not true.

Even with attending the funeral for Whitney, Bobby Brown can still make it to his scheduled concert with New Edition in the evening. That concert will take place in Connecticut.

San Francisco resident, Hattie James, says " I hear that dreadful Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket the funeral."

The Westboro Baptist Church recently planned to picket the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards (wife of John Edwards) and little Christina-Taylor Green, who died at the time Gabrielle Giffords was shot. (See that article here: Elizabeth Edwards funeral will be picketed)
