On March 13, 2013, Jodi Arias returns to the witness stand where she will continue the grilling prosecutor Juan Martinez aggressively delivers. Jodi Arias is on trial for the June 4, 2008, murder of her lover and ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander. Arias has told three different stories regarding the crime, finally settling on a self-defense theory. Prosecutor Juan Martinez disagrees and has portrayed Arias as an obsessively jealous, psychopath who traveled thousands of miles for the sole purpose of slaughtering Alexander as he prepared to take another woman to Cancun.
Travis Alexander was found deceased in his shower on June 9, 2008. He had suffered 29 stab wounds (including wounds to his hands, chest, heart and back), his throat had been slit from ear to ear (nearly decapitating him), and there was a single gunshot fired to his head.
Arias states she shot Alexander first, then due to his violent rage, blacked out and has no memory of moving his body into the shower stall, stabbing him repeatedly, nor nearly cutting his head off. She vaguely remembers putting a knife in a dishwasher and throwing a gun in the desert.
When investigators arrived at the crime scene, they found a mass of bloody evidence compiled in Alexander's washing machine. Most surprising of which was the memory card for a digital camera. Forensic experts used the card to retrieve photographic evidence chronicling some of the events that transpired that fateful day that ended Travis Alexander's fruitful and promising life.
Included in the photo evidence were nude photos of Travis Alexander and Jodi Arias, as she admitted the two engaged in sexual activity before the crime. Also retrieved, were photos of Travis Alexander in the shower alive, and then what appeared to be photographic evidence of stages from the crime.
Time-stamped photos showed Travis Alexander taking a shower, then suddenly, he was slumped on the shower stall floor in a pool of blood. Haphazard photos followed showing a ceiling and what appeared to be Jodi Arias' pant leg and shoe as she dragged a bloodied and dying or deceased Travis Alexander down a hallway floor.
Crime scene photos revealed the gruesomeness of the crime as the blood-soaked bathroom would ultimately become one of the most viewed crime scenes in modern day history.
The Jodi Arias trial has captivated the nation on a level not seen since the Casey Anthony trial and subsequent acquittal.
