My Morning Jacket frontman, Jim James' first solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God, opens with "State of the Art (A.E.I.O.U)" and blends old-fashioned R&B, wispy folk and realms of hip-hop are apparent throughout the track. The new video was announced today, October 21, via Girlie Action Media. Those elements are relevant in the song's new video featuring some kind of technology folk person with a TV for a head that meanders around the city (in the video) and interacts with its persons. Billboard premiered the video, which you can view HERE. According to number projections, Billboard states that James' debut solo album has "sold just short of 50,000 records since its release, a small number to some but actually a decent percentage of his band's usual sales numbers -- putting him on par with such artists as Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam."
The video is a result of the video project site Genero.tv, which is a platform for new, and up-and-coming filmmakers. Staci DeGagne, Alexander Fletcher and Joe Barham of San Francisco based production company, Clean White Lines, created the video. There was also a remix contest for the single, which has been selected a winner who received an inclusion on a just-released remix EP titled A.E.I.O.U.R.E.M.I.X.E.S. The remix also features contributions from The Decemberists' Chris Funk and Thom Green of Alt-J. Fans can listen to it via Spotify HERE.
