Each day is filled with negative and positive energy. The energy you concentrate is the energy you attract. Choose the positive and your day will be bright and hopeful. Lisa Abeyta’s father lives with Alzheimer’s and has virtually lost all of his speech. Lisa chooses to focus on encouraging moments like the reaction her father has to family dog, Roscoe. Watch the video, it is inspiring and heartwarming. It’s moments like these that Lisa never wants to forget and one she hones into to continue to love her father right where he is at in life.
What is Alzheimer’s disease?
According to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America website, “Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative disorder that attacks the brain's nerve cells, or neurons, resulting in loss of memory, thinking and language skills, and behavioral changes.” Visit their website to learn more and how you can become more sensitive to those living with this disease.
Dogs are Natural Therapy Healers
Pets such as dogs and cats offer unconditional love that makes them perfect therapy pets. Dogs are especially gifted at this because it seems that they are always eager to please and never disappoint. Petsource.org says, “any pet can perform this healing function just by giving and receiving trust and affection; however, there are animals that are specifically trained to act as healing pets.” You can check out Therapy Dogs International to learn how you can certify your pet to become a therapy dog or cat and visit nursing homes. Some pets have a natural ability to do this work and make a tremendous difference in the lives of people living with Alzheimer’s.
Pets and people have a purpose in life to help others. “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” Jeremiah 29:11 NLT. Seek to find a way to make a difference in the lives of others and the world will suddenly become more beautiful.
