Watch first exclusive clip from 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'

20th Century Fox will be debuting a new full length trailer for 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' June 18 on MTV. And in anticipation, the network released an exclusive first clip of the film on June 17, 2014. You can also watch it via our video embed.

The clip is brief, but gives clear foreshadowing of the conflict at the heart of the movie. Actor Jason Clarke is leading a band of human survivors across the Muir Woods, when they run into the Ape colony. As the hordes of apes converge on the humans, Clarke declares; "We don't mean you any harm!' Which sounds funny coming from a man holding a rifle.

Ape leader Caesar appears (via a CGI motion capture performance by Andy Serkis), observes the humans, and gives a terse one word warning: "Go!!!" We can discern that Caesar's warning is not just about his worries of conflict with the humans. But also his realization that he must always check his companions from attacking their evolutionary offspring who have brought them so much suffering. Clarke respectfully leaves their camp.

Actress Keri Russell is seen in the background, but main villain Dreyfus (played by Gary Oldman) isn't visible. But from previous trailers it is clear that he and Clarke's character do not share the same worldview about how their two species can co-exist.

For those wanting more backstory on the events that have transpired between 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' and 'Dawn', be sure to check out the new book prequel 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: Firestorm' which goes into detail on the Simian Flu that has wiped out much of humanity, and how that informs Dreyfus's prejudiced opinions. And 20th Century Fox has released a viral clip (pun not intended) to give a more succinct timeline of events.
