The game got out to about as poor of a start as one could imagine but the Flyers held their ground and stopped the bleeding in a hurry. After outplaying Chicago for much of the game, the two teams skated to overtime and a well-deserved point but there was another point out there for the taking.
Enter: Claude Giroux.
The captain put the team on his back and with 4.2 seconds remaining in overtime, he ripped a shot over the blocker-side shoulder of Blackhawks goaltender Antti Raanta to give the Flyers the big victory on home ice.
“I knew when I went on the ice 15 seconds, maybe 20 seconds,” Giroux said. “I knew there wasn’t a lot of time, so I was just trying to shoot as hard as I can to the net and didn’t really aim, to be honest. I just shot it on net.”
For someone who was not aiming, he sure sniped a beauty.
