Episode Description: Bethenny and Jason hit the road with their four-month old daughter, Bryn, to visit Jason's parents in his hometown in rural Pennsylvania. Bethenny experiences a culture shock as she and Jason stroll through the neighborhood and visit with some of Jason's old classmates. Things get tense over a dinner with Jason's parents as they voice how much they miss their granddaughter and how important it is for them to spend time with Bryn. Bethenny is frustrated by this and voices her need for having time alone just with Jason and Bryn. Trying to be the voice of reason but feeling caught in the middle, Jason does his best to make everyone happy. In the end, Bethenny begins to understand her husband's roots a little better as well as learning to embrace her own.

In Bethenny's Bravo Blog she writes:

Episode 1 is the weekend in Hazleton. Jason comes from a small town, the only place he's ever lived in his life besides New York. In that and every way, we are exact opposites.

I love the Hoppy's. They are the sweetest, most genuine people who raised my husband to be the beautiful man he is. As you know, I don't come from a close knit family, and I'm not used to bring with my parents all the time. If Jason's parents had their way, we'd live with them. It was difficult for us to find a balance and me to not feel like the bad guy. I'm still working on it. It is a process. They are wonderful people and parents, and I want them in Bryn's life. I also want Jason and I to also have our own family and intimate experiences that we experience alone.

As I mention in my next book, the key is "coming together" and making sacrifices for your partner because the sum is greater than its parts. Each of us has to adjust to the other's unfamiliar lifestyle because it makes our family stronger.

We will get there.

Check out the producer's commentary regarding the dinner at Mea. The producers of the show comment on the big dinner scene. It was a huge deal that they were going to this restaurant in particular. It's in an old bank and is the town's big fancy restaurant. Jason's mom Carol walked in like she was a superstar, everyone was staring, The owner was starstruck with Bethenny and the whole experience. Also watch "the Hoppy's play basketball!
