Watch all your World Cup games in D.C.'s Shaw neighborhood

Even though the U.S. has been ejected from the World Cup with a loss by Belgium, the ever popular Dacha Beer Garden continues to offer every World Cup game leading up/and including the final. But my advice is not to get used to the three flat screen TVs because they will be gone after the World Cup is over.

The Shaw neighborhood beer garden opens at 11 a.m. every day there is a World Cup game, although for the France v. Germany game the gates will open at 10:30 a.m. All the World Cup watching hasn't taken Dacha's focus away from it's patrons and special beers. The staff continues to provide quick and friendly service; and also gives recommendations on the various beers and drinks they have for those who are unsure of what to get. One of the recommendations has often been the rare doppelbock-style beer called Korbinian from the Munich-based Weihenstephaner (which labels itself as the oldest continuously operated brewery in the world). They also offer the Straffe Hendrik quad, B Nektar Cherry Mead, Fruh Kolsch, the Vitus, just to name a few.

It offers shaded seating from the D.C. summer sun by the many communal picnic umbrellas tables. It's also been viewed as the perfect place for some day drinking; especially during their happy hours.

Their happy hours run Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Weihenstephaner Pilsner and Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen drafts $5 singles and $10 doubles/boots).

"Dacha is the perfect place for a relaxing beer outside," mentioned Rachel Burns, a visitor from Reno, Nevada to the District for the Fourth. "They've got great beers and grilled food like the potatoes, sausages and brats."

If you're coming to watch the World Cup games there, my advice would be to arrive early to get a good spot because it fills up quickly.

Interestingly enough, Ilya Alter and Dimitri Chekaldin (Dacha owners) are headed to Munich, Germany, soon to meet with officals at Weihenstephaner. Let's hope they'll return with more brewery goodies to sample.

Dacha is located at 1600 7th Street, NW, in the Shaw neighborhood. It's normal hours of operation are: Mon-Thu 4 p.m. - 10:30 p.m., Fri 4 p.m. - 12 a.m., Sat 12 p.m. - 12 a.m., and Sun 12 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
