The Elegant Angel Productions feature Wasteland was the biggest winner at the Adult Video Network's 30th anniversary AVN Awards on Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, taking home Best Movie and Best Drama honors and earning Graham Travis a Best Director – Feature nod (a repeat for the director, who also won in 2012 for Portrait of a Call Girl) and trophies for Best Screenplay and Best Editing. Lily Carter won Best Actress for her role in the film, opposite Lily Labeau. Alex Ladd, Carlos D., and Mason shared the Best Cinematography prize.
It was Axel Braun's night, too: the prince of the porn parody won Director of the Year (Body of Work) on the strength of his outrageously popular sexed-up takes on superheroes and his smash Vivid Entertainment hit Star Wars XXX: A Porn Parody, this year's Best Parody – Comedy winner.
"I did not expect this," Braun told the crowd, in his acceptance speech. "I mean I really f***ing wanted it, but I did not expect it." Star Wars XXX also earned Braun a Best Director – Parody win, Best Screenplay (shared with co-writer Mark Logan), Best Art Direction, and even Best Overall Marketing Campaign. Adult film veteran Tom Byron won Best Supporting Actor for his role as Obi Wan Kenobi in the film, in a parody of the role made famous by Alec Guinness.
Torn, from the New Sensations Couples line, won Best Romance Release and earned Steven St. Croix a Best Actor trophy (for more on Torn and other adult entertainment created with women and couples in mind, don't miss my recent interview with Torn screenwriter Jacky St. James).
Spartacus MMXII: The Beginning, from London Gunn/Miko Lee/Wicked Pictures, won Best Parody – Drama. And Jailhouse Heat 3D, from Digital Playground, won Best 3D Release. For the complete list of 2013 AVN Awards winners, visit AVN.com.
