Washington State Ferries: Whidbey Island ferry rerouted from Mukilteo to Edmonds

If you're planning on traveling to Whidbey Island via the Washington State Ferries during the next few weekends, don't go to Mukilteo. The Mukilteo dock is closed for "preservation work" and for three long weekends, Fridays-Sundays, the ferries will depart and dock in Edmonds.

Most islanders have been alerted about the change over the past few months, but occasional travelers are often caught by surprise. One friend who was spending Friday in Everett was looking forward to zipping over to Mukilteo to spend the weekend on Whidbey. Oops. She quickly realized that it meant backtracking to Edmonds, and with fewer ferries running plus the added Friday night line-up, she had quite a long wait. Plus, the usual 20-minute ride between Mukilteo and Clinton on Whidbey is increased to 50 minutes between Edmonds and Clinton.
