If you're traveling aboard Washington State Ferries (WSF) this Thanksgiving, you may want to factor in the heavy traffic that WSF is expecting on all ferry routes during the long holiday weekend. Also, some routes are on a revised holiday schedule, and tidal conditions are affecting a route. In other words, plan ahead and check the schedule before you travel, which is available online.
WSF says the longest ferry lines are expected westbound on Wednesday afternoon and evening, Nov. 23 and eastbound on Friday morning, Nov. 25. The Mukilteo/Clinton (Whidbey Island), Seattle/Bainbridge Island and Point Defiance/Tahlequah routes are on holiday schedule Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24. All other routes will be on their regular weekday schedule.
Low tides will affect the Port Townsend/Coupeville (Whidbey Island) route, so additional sailings are scheduled to make up for the cancelled runs. Travelers should check the tidal cancellations for revised sailing times.
Amtrak Adds Trains: If you haven't booked your train travel for the holidays, do it now. Even though Amtrak has aded 11 trains to its Seattle and Portland route over Thanksgiving, many reservations are filling up fast. Read more about it in my previous post here in Examiner.com.
