Is the bank open on Presidents Day? Many people are wondering if their local bank is open, if there is mail delivery and if retail stores like Walmart and Target are open on Washington's Birthday, Monday February 20, 2012.
Holidays are always a hot Google trend and Presidents Day is a day off for many and for others, especially those who work in retail stores, it's a regular work day. Monday is a Federal Holiday, so if you're a federal employee, Washington's Birthday is one of the 2012 Federal Holidays and it's likely you have the day off. What's open and what isn't? Read the list below:
- Post offices are closed, so if you're waiting for that big check from the IRS, you won't be getting it in your mailbox on Monday.
- Most retail stores are open for the big Washington's Birthday sales that have been advertised all weekend. Additionally, car dealers have big sales on Monday and restaurants are open if you get hungry when you're shopping. Find restaurant deals and freebies here to keep your budget in tact.
- The stock market is closed on Presidents Day.
- Schools and libraries are typically closed and libraries won't be open either.
- Banks: Most banks are closed, but some will be open limited hours on Washington's birthday, including banks that have "in-store" branches. For the most part, banks are closed with access only to ATMs and on-line banking.
If you aren't sure, it's best to call ahead to see what is open in your area before you leave your house on Presidents Day.
