Haynesworth, Washington Redskins in a real mess

Albert Haynesworth has no desire to be the Nose Tackle in a 3-4 defense, and since Mike Shanahan came to town to run the Washington Redskins it seems that is what the team will use as their base defense. Now the two sides are locked in a fight over weather or not the team and player should continue their relationship. Complicating all of this is a 21 million dollar bonus that was paid to Haynesworth on April first.

2010 NFL draft review: Washington Redskins

I am not very sold on what this team did in this draft. Sure we have to consider that they used their second round pick to trade for QB Donovan McNabb, but I am not sold on that move either. I see this has a big recipe for failure. It is going to take t his team a lot longer to rebuild and they will have to do a better job in the draft then this to expedite the process. They failed to address their needs outside offensive lineman, and I don’t see how the offense is going to work even with McNabb at the helm.

2010 Washington Redskins draft class

When the 2010 NFL started the Washington Redskins had just four selections. While they ended up with six, they did not have enough picks to address needs of both sides of the ball.

2009 NFL draft one year later: Washington Redskins

The Redskins scored with the 13th overall pick when there got LB Brian Orakpo, and they are lucky they did because the rest of this draft class did next to nothing. A year ago I was critical of the decisions made by this front office, a year later they shot callers are gone and a new regime is in town. Orakpo made the pro bowl and should be a fixture on the Redskins defense for years to come. Other than that they spent five draft picks on nothing. That goes to show that NFL executives must do well on draft day or risk losing their jobs later.

Draft Day decision makers: Washington Redskins

The first question that we have to ask is how involved is Owner Daniel Snyder in the personnel moves of this team? Has he leaned his lesson? Will he allow new General Manger Bruce Allen and Head Coach Mike Shanahan decide what players they need and which ones they don't?

Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder set to take advantage of uncapped year

There have been a lot of reports, and statements from the NFL how their 32 owners are unified and on the same page in regards to the labor situation and an uncapped 2010 NFL season. Many teams have set budgets from themselves, but apparently Washington Redskins owner, Daniel Snyder, didn’t get that memo, and as usual he is on his own page.

Fix the Franchise: Washington Redskins edition

There seems to be a theme developing in these, bad teams with really bad owners. I want to say that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder learned his lesson and when out and got the strong football types that will be able to turn his team into a success. However on the cusp of an uncapped year, I cannot see Snyder controlling himself for very long. This is the only owner out there that will not set a budget and 2010 might just be the one year where he really can go out ad buy some success for his team.

What should the Washington Redskins do with the fourth overall pick?

The Washington Redskins probably need a QB, since they have a new regime in place. This usually means that a new franchise QB is the first pick, the new regime makes, however in the 2010 NFL draft there may not be a QB worth the fourth overall pick. That means the Redskins may be forced to address other needs with this draft pick.

2009 NFL season in review: Washington Redskins

Of all the bad teams in 2009 it is hard to say this bad team is in better shape than that bad team. However the St. Louis Rams and Detroit Lions have significant holes everywhere. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have big holes on one side of the ball, and the Washington Redskins are a whole lot better than most NFL fans want to give them credit for. Sure three of the four wins, came against bad teams, and the fourth against the slumping Denver Broncos, but they had a Head Coach who was clearly overmatched, and in fear of losing his job. On top of that they had no direction for their defense. Sure they were a mess, but there is a lot of talent on this ball club.

Washington Redskins hire Haslett to run their defense

After a year, in what some are calling football purgatory, coaching for the up start UFL Jim Haslett has been by the new regime in Washington to run a new and improved Redskin defense. This is an excellent hire, and further proof that the Redskins might finally be on the right road, after years of mismanagement by their owner Daniel Snyder. New Head Coach, Mike Shanahan, wants Haslett to bring in a 3-4 defensive scheme, that can take advantage of the biggest asset on the Redskin roster, one Albert Hayensworth.

Mike Shanahan’s Redskins to do list

Mike Shanahan has a lot of work to do to fix the ills of the Washington Redskins. However the job may not be as big as many people think. They already have a pretty good defense in place, if Shanahan can find a good defensive coordinator not much attention will have to be paid to that side of the ball. Short term the defense is not he biggest concern, the Redskin offense on the other hand is going to need all of Shanahan’s offensive genius.

Shanahan get 35 million, five years to fix Redskins

Well folks it is official, Mike Shanahan has been introduced to the media as the new head coach of the Washington Redskins, and he becomes the second most scrutinized man in Washington DC. Besides his head coaching duties, Shanahan will be the executive vice president of football operations and he not General Manager Bruce Allen will have the final say on personnel decisions. While Shanahan has a proven record, and is one of a select group of coaches to have two Super Bowl Rings, that does not guarantee success for the Redskins.

Why are the Redskins dangling Jim Zorn in the wind?

The Washington Redskins are reportedly interviewing some of their coaching staff for their Head Coaching position. The problem with hat is they already have a Head Coach in Jim Zorn, and rather than delay the inevitable they should just fire the guy now. Come 2010 there is virtually no chance that Zorn will retain his role with the Redskins, but this classless organization would rather interview people on his own staff, than do what many have called for, for some time. The 2009 season is over for the Redskins, and instead of interviewing assistant coaches for a position that is likely to go to Mike Shanahan anyways, the Red skins should fire Zorn let one of the assistant coaches run the team for the last two weeks, and then conduct the entire interview process in the off-season.

Now that Allen is in charge, Redskins have real work to do

Now that Bruce Allen is the man in charge of the Washington Redskins, the real work for this franchise can begin. The good news is they will likely have a top ten draft pick to get the process started, the bad news for a team with four wins they have questions all over their roster. First thing first Allen has to find his man in head coach, and insure that they can remain on the same page. A lot of the Redskins problems, at least in 2009, are due to the fact the former head man Vinny Cerrato and Head Coach Jim Zorn didn’t get along. That point was exemplified when Cerrato resigned and thanked several Redskin personnel and left out Zorn.

Washington Redskins shake up front office

In what is surely the first of many moves the Washington Redskins will make to help the team improve Vinny Cerrato has resigned as Vice President of Football operations, and Bruce Allen has been hired and given the General Manger title. That title is significant since Allen will be the first person the ‘Skins front office to hold that title since Dan Snyder bought the team.

Who is to blame for the Washington Redskins mess?

The Washington Redskins are 2-3 so many might view their situation as dire, but  their two wins came at the expense of two winless clubs and this is a team in crisis. Head Coach Jim Zorn has the appearance of a coach just playing out his string waiting to be fired, and for the amount of payroll on this team; they should at least be contenders.

Is the Redskins name offensive?

In the early 1990’s, it was en vogue for Indian groups and other concerned people to rally against the many Indian themed sports nick names across the country. Some of the smaller Colleges and Universities ultimately gave into this pressure, and changed their names to other thing not related to the American Indian culture. For the most part, the pro sports teams stood pat, and for the most part, the courts stayed away from team name lawsuits. That is all of them except the Washington Redkskins.

2009 Washington Redskins draft analysis

The Washington Redskins are always kind of hard to figure out. It seems the philosophy of the team changes on owner Daniel Snyder’s whim. One year they claim the virtues of the NFL draft, and the next they trade away multiple picks.
