Washington hosts spa symposium at National Press Club Tuesday

Is the nation's new spa capital Washington? With spa industry leaders gathering Tuesday at the National Press Club, Washingtonians are about to learn about plans for major developments in the national capital region.

- Canyon Ranch SpaClub at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.

- Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, Va.

- WTS International expansion in Rockville, Md.

- The Watergate Hotel in DC.

- The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV.

The stars are aligned for an historic meeting of the minds. Never have so many spas been under development since George and Martha Washington took the waters in Berkeley Springs, a gift from British King George of England to Lord Fairfax in the Virginias.

To celebrate Canyon Ranch coming East, corporate chef Scott Uehline is collaborating with NPC executive chef Susan Delbert to create a luncheon featuring spa cusine from Arizona, Massachusetts, Miami Beach, and Virginia.

Biodynamic wines from Frey Vineyards in California will be served.

Nestle Waters will launch its new American brand - resource - with naturally occurring electrolytes for taste. Packaged in a bottle made with 50 percent recycled plastic (rPET), resource is expanding to offer national distribution and is now available to spas and other retailers across the U.S.

Miraval resort & spa in Arizona is gifting symposium registrants with a new book by the director of the Andrew Weill Center for Integrative Medicine. Miraval CEO Michael Tompkins will document management changes since the resort was acquired by DC-based Revolution LLC.

The latest news at The Watergate will be revealed by the new COO of spa design firm WTS International based in Rockville, Md. Plans for the Watergate Spa are still under wraps, but according to company executives, there will be a world-class health club on the Potomac.

Two new national organizations based in Washington will be introduced: The Green Spa Network, and Deborah Szekely's Wellness Warriors.
